John Weiss & Son Ltd has extended the FEATHER brand offering of ophthalmic microscalpels in the UK. The Feather Parallel-sided Blade is now available in fives sizes from 2.1 to 2.5mm and now also 2.8mm. Parallel-sided blades offer the benefits of minimised cutting resistance, avoid accidental enlargement of incisions and meet the needs of new phaco tips and IOLs. This addition has strengthened the already extensive Feather offering of ophthalmic knives.
The Feather range also includes a range of Groove Blades with a guarded depth feature that assure consistent and accurate depths for Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI's), particularly 550 and 600 micron. The ergonomic 'grip' section of the aluminium handle allows an excellent view of the incision. Incision depths range from 300 to 600 micron.
All FEATHER ophthalmic microscalpels are manufactured from the highest quality stainless steel using Feather’s ultra-high-precision micro-grinding technology. The ultra-sharp blade edges are produced from carefully selected materials using a double honing process. This results in a sharp cutting edge with outstanding durability. In addition to minimising tissue damage during incisions, the uniform cut makes it possible to produce a consistent incision size at all times
FEATHER microscalpels offer two types of handles, aluminium or plastic. This is to effectively respond to the needs of as many surgeons as possible. Both scalpel types are sterilized by gamma radiation and can be used immediately after opening the package. The FEATHER range also offers instruments designed specifically for vitreoretinal surgery, including membrane manipulation adherent to the retina.
