Care, Maintenance, Reprocessing and Repair Recommendations for Microsurgical Instruments

Keeping delicate surgical instruments in peak condition is more cost effective than replacing them. This level of care starts on delivery. All John Weiss instruments come with detailed care, maintenance, reprocessing and repair recommendations that should be followed to protect your investment. John Weiss makes every effort to supply perfect instruments.

All instruments should be removed from their boxes and examined under magnification to be assured they are in perfect condition. If a problem is found, John Weiss should be notified immediately. Once the instrument has been examined and accepted it should be cleaned before being placed in a sterilising tray. John Weiss recommends the use of Instrument Trays (see TRAYS section), Sterile Instrument Wipes 1701010 (box of 20) and Sterile Diamond Knife Cleaning Blocks 1701009 (box of 10).

These recommendations have been validated. It remains the responsibility of the processor to ensure that the processing as actually performed achieves the desired result. This requires validation and routine monitoring of the process. John Weiss Instruments are designed for use by surgeons, who have a good knowledge of their features and how they should be used. Any other use can compromise the safety of the user and the patient and damage the instrument. It is the responsibility of the surgeon to choose the suitable instrument for the surgical technique being performed, based on their experience and expertise.

When reprocessing medical devices, always handle with care, wearing protective clothing, gloves and eyewear, in accordance with Health & Safety procedures. Repeated processing has minimal effect on John Weiss instruments. The life of the instrument is normally determined by wear and damage in use.
